“Take me to the mountains” is what I wish for most times and so last weekend we hit the road to Blue Ridge Parkway. Every now and then I yearn to be in the mountains, it is so therapeutic. It basically translates to the popular quote – “the mountains are calling and I must go.” A weekend getaway to the mountains while cruising the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway, stopping over at vista points, sounds like the ideal weekend getaway from Atlanta.
The weather was mostly foggy and rainy, not ideal for clear views or hiking. Nevertheless, the low lying clouds and fog painted a beautiful scene.
One of our stops was Mitchell State Park, the summit is the highest point east of the Mississippi at 6,684 feet. A short walk from the parking lot takes to an observation deck, giving you sweeping views of mountains in all directions. But with the fog and rain, we only saw a glimpse of it.
While it was foggy up at the summit, the sky started to clear on the lower level of the state park and we could see some of those views.
After a few more pit stops, as the evening rolled in, we headed towards our vacation rental. A mountain getaway is done right when you never leave sight of them.
The Airbnb vacation home sits at a height giving you sweeping views of the mountains and the pastures below. It is an impressive view that you can enjoy from the patio living room and master bedroom. What a sight to wake up to, isn’t it? The rest of the evening and the next morning was spent enjoying this view. Needless, to say the heart wanted to stay longer. These pictures and post will remind of this place and the lovely time spent here.
P.S. I have linked the rental above if anyone is interested, it is no way sponsored by Airbnb.
