When you can’t make it to the Netherlands for their famous tulip fields, the next best thing available to me was Skagit Valley in Washington. Call it karma or good timing, but I was flying to Seattle in April which coincided with the tulip blooming season in Skagit Valley.
The tulip festival happens annually during the month of April in Mount Vernon, Washington. There are different tulip farms in the valley that charge an admission fee. I went to one of these tulip farms and it was exactly how I imagined. There I was surrounded by tulips, in a parade of beautiful and bright shades of purple, coral, red, pink and yellow. It was my first time being in a field of flowers and it beats any other garden experience. I was in flower paradise. I think I want to visit more flower fields every spring. It’s a good thing that the farm did not allow people to walk inside the field to protect the tulips, but just imagine the joy of running in a field of flowers. It just got added to my bucket list.
*RIP Kate. Live colorfully, as she said. Just goes to show that everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Always.
