Summer in Cape Cod

Summer in Cape Cod is the best time. This arm-shaped peninsula located on the easternmost portion of Massachusetts is known for its beautiful beaches with rolling dunes, seafood, and homemade ice cream. Sounds like a great summer holiday, right?

The Cape Cod National Seashore stretches for 40-miles and is recognized as having some of the best beaches in Cape Cod. Some of which include Nauset Beach in Eastham, Marconi Beach in Wellfleet and Race Point and Herring Cove beaches in Provincetown. Managed by the National Park Service, it has spectacular sand dunes, nature trails, miles of pristine beaches, and lighthouses.

Naturally, my agenda for Cape Cod was to get into the water and find lighthouses. We stopped at Nauset Beach to see the Nauset Lighthouse which is the logo for Cape Cod Potato Chips. The beach is a short walk from the parking lot and lighthouse, and it is so clean and beautiful. I had read about the shark attacks in Cape Cod, so I did not venture deep into the water.

With one lighthouse down, I headed to Highland Light, an active lighthouse in North Truro. It started to pour just when we got to the lighthouse and the scenery changed completely. From the sunny sky at the beach earlier, it became dramatic and gloomy in a beautiful way. At first, the rain did seem like a downpour (pun intended) but turns out it added to the beauty of the lighthouse. The best part being we had the whole place to ourselves.

As the sun got down, we made our last stop at Provincetown, the tip of Cape Cod. Every town in Cape Cod is distinctive. But Provincetown takes the cherry on the cake. It has picture-perfect homes, gardens, and alleys. You can tell that the locals have taken efforts to make everything look so pretty and charming. It’s like flipping through a home decor magazine. Every turn will make you go ‘ahh so pretty!’ and wishing you lived here. We strolled on Commercial Street in the rain and it was swarming with people and I did not mind it. Everyone was merry and happy there.
