I know black is not considered a summer appropriate color except if you are in New York (black seems to be the official uniform there). We have all heard about the “black absorbs the most heat” rule. But there are few tips to wearing black in summer whilst staying cool. Avoid anything that clings to your body, choose a light breathable fabric. I feel this goes for summer dressing in general. Let your body breathe, you can opt for a flowy silhouette or play with proportion like exposing certain parts of your body which are conducive to air flow.
Like this Black Midi Slip dress from Frey Boutique which is currently on sale ($20). I like the bare shoulders and side slit of this slip dress. The adjustable straps tie at the back and make it easy to customize as per one’s body. The material is exactly what I said in the beginning, soft, light and it feels luxurious. I have paired the slip dress with blue sandals from Frey Boutique that I also featured in this post.
I find ‘slip‘ dresses minimalistic and chic. It is the kind of dress you can just slip into, hence the name right? I always picture a slip dress on the beach, walking barefoot on the soft sand with the wind in my hair. (I can dream, right?)
How to style a black slip dress – Add a printed kimono or a scarf like I have. You can even pair it with a white tee underneath for a casual look. For Fall season, add a leather jacket or an asymmetrical sweater/cardigan.
Size Note – The dress fits a little on the smaller side. A medium is a 4-6 and large is 8-10. I am wearing a medium.
